Early Scent Introduction

Unlike the more well know brain development tool with a similar akronym ESI is a little less straight forward. It is also newer tecqunique and newer to our practice. It does follow a similar timeline of 3 to 16 days of age. The idea too is similar that beginning the scent pathways in the brain at a young age will help increase their sense of smell later in life. We pick from a variety of strong smells the dog is likely to encounter later in life. Introducing one per day for a minimum of 5 seconds up to 30 seconds, depending on their engagement. Some of the smells we have used include, flowers, spices, chickens, artificial game bird smells, cats, fruit, and grass. Part of the reason we decide to include this program is because the Golden Retriever breed was bred to retrieve. Golden retrievers are also becoming one of the most popular therapy and services dogs. A large part of that is using their nose. Even if most of our dogs go to family homes, developing a puppy's brain and smell only helps them be a more well rounded dog. So whether your puppy will be smelling game birds, glucose levels, peanuts, or a game of hide seek, we want to give your puppy a head start.
